The article reveals one of the pages of the creative biography of the famous Ukrainian historian Borys Krupnytsky in the post-war period. Immediately it focuses on understanding the known political and public Ukrainian monument of the late 18th – the early 19th century “Istoria Rusiv”. B. Krupnytsky understands the monument in comparison with the then-time work of the German historian Johann Christian von Engel “History of Ukraine and Ukrainian Cossacks”. B. Krupnytsky does not research the issue of authorship of “Istoria Rusiv”, but proclaims the author as a Republican and adherent of the aristocratic republic. In general, the monument is presented as a work of the age of the Enlightenment, and Ukrainian culture as a component of the European culture of the Enlightenment.
