The article reveals one of the page of the creative biography of the famous Ukrainian historian Dmytro Doroshenko. The exploratory appeal to the figure of hetman Petro Doroshenko, who was the ancestor of D. Doroshenko, is directly analyzed. Actually, on the example of D. Doroshenko’s application to the figure of Petro Doroshenko, the formation of the state school of Ukrainian historiography is shown. Particularly relevant it is the state approach in the years of the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1923, one of the active activists of which was D. Doroshenko. In the years of the Revolution, when the main threat came again from the East, from Russia, for the Ukrainian social and political thought, hetmans who carrєd out a pronounced anti-Russian policy, including the figure of Petro Doroshenko, became particularly relevant. Therefore, it is no coincidence that leading figures of the Ukrainian Revolution (S. Petliura, M. Hrushevsky, D. Doroshenko, etc.) in their writings and public speeches carrєd out parallels between their way and the hetmans B. Khmelnitsky, P. Doroshenko and I. Mazepa. Thus, the imposition of his own experєnce of state-building was reflected in the historiographical assessments of the figure of P. Doroshenko in the writings of D. Doroshenko.
