The paper is devoted to the “land question” in the Russian Empire at the beginningof the twentєth century. It is based on archival documents and historical works; the authortrєs to determine the influence of rumors and unofficial communication (rumours) on theeconomic situation and social sentiments of the peasantry of Ukrainian provinces of the Rus-sian Empire at the beginning of the twentєth century.
